Letter from CEO Manuka Health New Zealand

29 Feb 2016
Date: 27 February 2016 Subject: Evergreen Life Manuka Honey Recall
Dear valued customers, Many of you will have seen the news about natural healthcare brand, Evergreen Life, recalling 18 of its Manuka honey products in Singapore. You can find full details at the following link: life-manuka-honey-products. According to the Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI), synthetic dihydroxyacetone (DHA) and methylglyoxal (MGO) may have been added to Evergreen Life's honey during processing. Although there is no health risk, adding artificial ingredients to honey is against the law. We would like to reassure you that Manuka Health does not add anything artificial to its honey. We only use pure, New Zealand grown ingredients in our products. The MGO in our honey is completely natural, and comes from the nectar of the Manuka honey flowers that our bees visit. Naturally occurring MGO and DHA are acknowledged in MPI's Manuka honey labeling guidelines as being acceptable markers of genuine Manuka honey. Manuka Health also has sophisticated systems in place that allow us to track our honey from when it is delivered to us by the beekeepers, all the way to our end distributors and customers around the world. We grade our honey using the strict MGO Manuka Honey testing system that we launched in 2007. Every batch of our Manuka honey is tested in our ISO 17025 certified in-house laboratory. We also adhere to stringent global food safety standards, and are accredited by such authorities at the British Retail Consortium. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please do email me and I will get back to you with a response as soon as I possibly can. Kind regards John Kippenberger CEO, Manuka Health New Zealand
