Evergreen Manuka Honey Recalled

29 Feb 2016
Our Ministry of Health has declared a ban on Evergreen Manuka Honey produced by Evergreen Life Limited New Zealand. Our Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the ministry has received information from Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) New Zealand that Evergreen Life Limited is recalling its Manuka Honey products because non-approved substances, i.e. synthetic dihydroxyacetone (DHA) and synthetic methylglyoxal (MGO), may have been used during the processing of the honey and it is against the law to add anything synthetic to honey according to the MPI standard.
Manuka Health New Zealand would like to reassure that Manuka Health does not add anything artificial to our Manuka Health manuka honey. Our Manuka Health manuka honey is pure and natural. The MGO in our honey is completely natural, and comes from the nectar of the Manuka honey flowers that our bees visit. Naturally occurring MGO and DHA are acknowledged in MPI's Manuka honey labelling guidelines as being acceptable markers of genuine Manuka honey.
